US Customs Related News - Updated Sept 7, 2025
All orders to the US will continue to ship as they always have,
without any product price increases and no tariff charges!

Great news!
With the help of our fantastic Canadian broker, and thanks to Just the Goods products being compliant with the Canada US Mexico Trade Agreement (CUSMA), Just the Goods is now shipping to the USA under a professional customs broker-filed declaration form that means we are not required to collect and remit tariffs, so US clients will NOT need to pay extra for their orders.
To make this new brokerage method work as smoothly as possible…
- Just the Goods will ship to the US once per week to the cost of this new brokerage method, which is added to the usual cost of transportation parcels from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada to Pembina North Dakota USA so they can ship as USPS domestic mail.
- I’ve slightly increased the shipping rate for the first two shipping levels (i.e. the shipping rates typically assigned to orders of single items) to help mitigate new costs
- Ideally, this change in shipping rates will help me to *not* raise the cost of products for anyone 😀
The main conditions for remaining compliant with CUSMA require that…
- Just the Goods ships to the United States only products certified compliant. This includes all Just the Goods products, as well as Jack59 and GroundSoap because they have provided me with their paperwork; I’m still waiting for Attitude to provide me with theirs.
- Just the Goods can no longer ship products such as Nippon Kodo incense, Muji blotting papers, etc because they are made in Japan, not Canada, and would require entry paperwork completed by a US-based customs broker. In February this limitation affected only goods made in China (i.e. gua sha tools and comedone kits), but now this means everything not made in Canada. I’ve updated the US catalogue to reflect this.
- Just the Goods can no longer ship packaging accessories without corresponding Just the Goods products. If you need pumps or flip top caps with your order, please use the drop down menus on product pages to ensure those are selected with and transported as part of your Just the Goods products, not as separate products.

---- Update: August 27 ----
I'm working with my broker to ensure my next shipment into the US on Friday, September 5 can enter without delay. I'm currently only able to ship products made exclusively by Just the Goods so I've removed other products from the catalogue available to clients in the United States for the time being. I'm following up with each company about CUSMA compliance, where possible.
Please also note that product packaging can not ship without associated Just the Goods products. For example, we are not currently able to ship orders for bottle pumps or replacement glass deodorant roll-on bottles without corresponding Just the Goods skin care products.
Affected items will be edited and refunded from orders if I'm unable to secure evidence of compliance ahead of shipping.
*** Please note: Any order placed before possible tariffs are confirmed may still be subject to tariffs if the order ships after the announced tariff remittance start date. Just the Goods’ production and shipping schedule can be found at the top of every page of this website. I will reach out to anyone with an order requiring additional payment before the order is logged with a customs agent and shipped. ***
Thank you!

Hello friends 💚
I’m back from a week away and want to share with you news I received on Tuesday evening: The de minimis exemption of the Canada / US trade agreement is being discontinued effective August 29, 2025.
The scope of products to be affected, and their tariff rates, are as yet unknown to me. My Canadian broker has recommended a specific broker in the US and I’ve started their on-boarding process. They’re still working out the new procedure under these changes, so I’m not 100% sure what comes next, but I’ll do my best to continue moving through the process as quickly as possible.
So far, I anticipate the following:
-
Just the Goods will only be able to ship to the US once per week instead of twice per week. My broker currently combines brokerage with transportation services; the base cost of brokerage will now be considerably higher per bill of lading, so it will be more cost effective to reduce the overall number of entries per year. I’ll continue working with my original broker for southbound transport services.
-
JTG’s remaining shipping dates into the US under normal circumstances will be as follows: August 13, August 15, August 20, August 22, and August 27.
-
September 5 may be the first shipping date under new circumstances -- I will keep everyone posted.
-
Given JTG’s two week production and shipping schedule, if I need to begin collecting tariffs on products shipped to addresses in the US, I think I’ll need to begin doing that on August 23. I’m not sure if this will apply to international orders shipping *through* the US. One challenging issue is that I don’t know if Just the Goods will still qualify under the current trade agreement as tariff-free, or if they will be subject to tariffs. And, if they are subject to tariffs, I don’t know what the rate will be. I’ll keep in touch with this information, as well. This situation may require contacting each person about their order if it can not ship before August 29 to charge tariffs if applicable. I truly hope it doesn’t come to that because its cumbersome for me, frustrating for all of you, and may lead to non-refundable credit card processing fees, which are overhead costs I try to avoid so I can ensure Just the Goods products remain as affordable as possible for all.
-
Using a US broker may make it possible to resume shipping products made in China (i.e. stainless steel gua sha tools, and comedone removal kits) but it might still be too complicated, so I’m waiting for more information about this, as well.
-
I’m not yet sure how clients in Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, and South America accessing discounted shipping rates through the United States will be affected. I may need to return to only offering shipping services direct from Canada.
The last thing I want is for this newsletter to induce panic -- maybe we’ll get lucky and this change will not come to be? Having said that, I’m heartbroken over the idea of potentially needing to increase Just the Goods’ public wholesale product pricing to cover the cost of tariffs and new customs-related administrative fees.
With that said, I returned to work early to make three high demand items with a long shelf life to give folks a chance to stock up a bit before this takes effect.

I’m still planning to start dehydrating strawberries this weekend, so strawberry face mask will be available soon. I’ll let you know when it’s ready 🙂
As for everything else, Chris and I are gearing up to make and ship as much as we can as quickly as possible before Section 321 of CUSMA comes to a close. And, at the same time, we’re hoping this trade provision remains protected in the end.
Thank you for your incredible support and interest over the years -- it has been my greatest pleasure handmaking Just the Goods for friends on the other side of the Canadian border. I appreciate you and want the very best for us all. I hope we’ll be able to keep in touch, no matter what 💚🌼
Please take care!
