I've been experimenting with mushroom powders in skin care, and now you can, too! This product is extracted from the fruiting body of Chaga mushroom using both hot water and alcohol making it very soluble and thus readily available for absorption by skin.
Chaga mushroom shows up as a sclerotia (concentrated growth) that is found mostly on birch trees in the northern regions of our planet. It has been used for at least several hundred years in Russia and Eastern Europe and is well known and used extensively by indigenous people of northern Canada, Europe and Siberia. As a superfood and medicine Chaga has gained much popularity over the last 10 years, mostly due to its heavily researched potential anti-tumor and immuno-modulating properties. Chaga is also employed as a potent antioxidant for which it is starting to get quite a reputation.
Indeed, it is these antioxidants (primarily polyphenols, which are components of melanin and hispidin analogs, and superoxide dismutase and catalase) that help to reduce cellular damage while improving elasticity and potentially minimizing the effects of scarring. Naturally occurring betulonic acid and zinc help to regenerate skin cells to facilitate healing. And, it's anti-inflammatory properties are especially beneficial to skin prone to swelling and/or redness. All in all, a fantastic ingredient to help protect skin.
This dual extracted powder blends easily with water for use as a mask. Use it alone or blended with a light clay to help draw impurities away from the skin.
Please note: This product is offered for use in facial care. For use as a dietary supplement, please consult your health care provider for information specific to your individual needs, including suitability for internal use during pregnancy/nursing.
