Thalassotherapy is a category of spa treatments enjoyed for centuries worldwide involving mineral rich seawater and marine products such as seaweed. What is less known is the sheer diversity of underwater plants! There are over 30,000 known varieties of seaweed, each with their own unique profile of amino acids, proteins, lipids, vitamins and minerals, their many combinations providing a great variety of nutrient dense benefits for skin.
Just the Goods' Oceana combines six varieties of seaweed with sea salt for a colourful blend celebrating underwater plants in an area of the Earth where new discoveries continue to help us appreciate the interconnected nature of all things 💙
Oceana is a unique feast for the senses: watch seaweed unfurl as it transposes nutrients into your bath while absorbing water; smell the briny freshness of open sea; feel muscles relax and soften while ocean plants float around you.
Ingredient highlights:
- Bladderwrack, found on the coasts of both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, is used in many body care care products because it is considered high in antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E, which help protect against free radical damage that causes loss of elasticity and dullness, while fucoidan helps to promote collagen production. Since it is packed with B-complex vitamins, calcium, iodine, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium, sulfur, and silicon, bladderwrack is also considered a powerful anti-inflammatory.
- Kelp is a large seaweed that forms underwater forests, providing nutritious habitat for marine life. Like other types of seaweed, it’s loaded with minerals such as iodine, iron, magnesium, calcium, and vitamins A and B12. However, most interesting is that it’s packed with polysaccharides, a powerful humectant, that helps to draw moisture to skin cells. There are many types of kelp varying in colour based on the saltwater within which its found. This particular kelp - bull kelp - is found in the Pacific ocean from the Aleutian Islands of Alaska all the way down to Southern California,
- Found in North Atlantic and Northwest Pacific regions, dulse is rich in amino acids as well as trace elements and vitamins such as magnesium, calcium, iron, vitamin B9 folate, and pantothenic acid, among others. When used in body care preparations, this can help to improve circulation which not only helps to relieve stiff muscles and joints, but also helps to brighten and tone skin. Beyond this, dulse is has been observed to soothe eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, as well as fight fungus and unwanted bacteria.
- Sea lettuce grows in most temperate and cold seas throughout the world and is so rich in vitamins and minerals that it has long been eaten in both the Mediterranean region and Asian islands of the Atlantic as a flavourful condiment and nutritional supplement. Where skincare is concerned, sea lettuce is prized for the draining and toning effect of its alginates and polysaccharides, and for its antioxidants that help to establish a smoother, more radiant complexion.
- Found in the northwest pacific ocean, wakame is quite high in calcium, which helps to regulate sebum production, and magnesium, which hydrates, strengthens, and soothes skin. This is in addition to a diverse concentration of antioxidants that slow cellular degradation to protect elastin and water loss and fucoidan which regenerates collagen.
- Nori is found on all sea coasts worldwide, especially in the North Atlantic. Beyond the trace elements already noted as helpful to soothing to inflamed skin, nori contains various heat-stable water-soluble antioxidants including palythine, shinorine, and porphyra-33 and others that help it thrive under harsh conditions, including constant UV exposure from sunlight, which is why it’s found in various sunscreen products.
No essential oils have been added to this formula so it can be enjoyed by those sensitive to scent, and/or while pregnant and/or nursing. This product may not be suitable for those allergic to iodine.
