unflavoured vegan toothpaste
Do you consider fluoride, sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium laureth sulphate, and PVM/MA copolymer too unhealthy to include in toothpaste? Would you rather stay away from artificial flavours and dyes such as FD & C Blue No. 1? Are you displeased with the high quantity of sweetener added to both conventional and “natural” toothpastes? Did it break your heart when your favourite natural brand was purchased by a large maker and distributor of toxic chemicals?
Yeah, us too…
It took months of research and development to devise the perfect low-abrasion natural toothpaste.
Suspended in vegetable glycerine, Just the Goods’ toothpaste blends just the right balance of calcium carbonate and kaolin clay (high in calcium, zinc, and magnesium) help remove food build up and deliver a gentle polish, coconut oil to improve the absorption of calcium thus minimizing the chance of cavities while whitening teeth, and neem to prevent and heal gum disease, prevent cavities, and fight bacteria.
Where’s the baking soda, you ask? We find baking soda too abrasive to use regularly and, as it turns out, many dentists and naturopaths agree it should be used sparingly and infrequently.
Feel free to add your own natural, food grade flavouring to suit your child's preferences. For example, vanilla or organic peppermint baking extract.
This preservative-free product lasts longer when exposure to the elements (i.e. air, humidity, sunlight) is kept to a minimum. Please store in a cool, dark place and keep tightly sealed between uses.
Ingredients: vegetable glycerine, calcium carbonate, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, kaolin clay, azadirachta indica (neem) oil
REVISED Available Sizes: To facilitate more efficient production and thus maintain an affordable product, Just the Goods' toothpaste is no longer available in plastic bottles. And, since this product has proven to be too difficult to make and package over all, I will be discontinuing it as soon as I run out of calcium carbonate. Until that time, this product will only be available in full-size jars filled to 120 g. Thanks!
A note regarding the recent format change: Toothpaste is one of the first products Just the Goods offered upon launching almost 7 years ago. Over the course of that time, I've worked hard to keep this product affordable, while also reducing packing weight to facilitate shipping. This product was initially available in glass canning jars, and for a short time I experimented with refill bags, but those were remarkably unsuccessful so I switched to HDPE bottles in two sizes. But the filling process is an arduous one involving entirely manual equipment not designed for a material of this density, which bends the laws of physics and inevitably leads to damaged equipment, lost product, and tired hands. I've tried slowing down, but that results in lost time, energy, and income.
I am committed to offering healthier handmade body care products at the lowest possible prices, so I need to do this in a manner that is sustainable. Rather than invest in high pressure automated bottling equipment that costs $100,000+ and pass that cost on to clients, I've decided to discontinue using HDPE bottles to package toothpaste and return to offering it in glass jars only: 40 g packed into 25 ml jars suitable for sampling/travel, and 120 g packed in reusable 125 ml canning jars with standard two-piece lids. I will continue to seek out alternative packaging materials and methods -- maybe an HDPE jar? In the meantime I wanted to give everyone a chance to scoop up the last toothpaste available in this format, so here it is! 😀 Thanks for understanding!
